Ellis & Associates has been issued STC Number SA02771LA, for modifying the Right Hand Door and/or Left Hand Door or Fuselage replacing the existing fixed window to become an Openable Window. The following Manufacturers and Models are eligible for installation of the Openable Window STC:
Textron Aviation (Beechcraft) 35 (TCDS A-777) & 33, 35 & 36 (TCDS 3A15)
Commander Aircraft 112/114 (TCDS A12SO)
Mooney Aircraft 20 (TCDS 2A3)
Piper Aircraft PA-24 (TCDS 1A15), PA-28 (TCDS 2A13) & PA-32 (TCDS A3SO)
This modification cannot be installed on aircraft with left or right Storm Window (Vent Window) part of the fuselage/door, It needs to be part of the window itself. For Unpressurized aircraft only!
The Openable Window – Right/Left Hand installation process is carried out by fabricating the window assembly parts using the existing right and/or left cabin skin door skin and window without modifying the structure. There are no modifications of the cabin door/fuselage structure. Then, parts are installed, according to the installation instructions.
If there is a Storm Window installed in the existing fixed window of the door to be modified, the Storm Window must be relocated to the new Openable Window. This retains the Storm Window vent functions, and does not change any airspeed limitations on Storm Window function. The new, openable window can be opened fully, close to 180 degrees. The ability to open the window for emergency egress provides additional safety to the occupants if the cabin door is jammed or inoperable following an emergency landing. The window is hinged at the bottom edge, with two hinges, and latched at the top, with two redundant latches. There is also a handle on the upper edge of the window, to assist in opening and closing the window.
The Openable Window is installed on the Right Hand Door and/or Left Hand Door or Fuselage replacing the existing fixed window. The Modification does not affect the structure of the door and/or Fuselage, because it is installed using the identical attachment pattern and attachments of the Fixed Window. There is no modifying of the aircraft for the Opening Window.
